Barcelona are interested in bringing Thiago Alcantara back to Nou Camp from Bayern Munich, in case a move for Paris Saint-Germain's Marco Verratti fails to materialise.
Mundo Deportivo reports that Thiago is seen as an alternative option to Verratti, with the French side unwilling to sell to Barca due to ill feeling following their shocking Champions League round of 16 loss.
Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez watched Thiago in action against Arsenal recently and was said to have been impressed at how the player has developed in Bavaria. However, Bayern are aware of Barca's interest and are already working on a contract extension to Thiago's current deal, which runs until 2019, while also provisionally plotting a move for Bayer Leverkusen's Julian Brandt.
